Toni & Brian’s wedding at Langtons House Hotel was an intimate Thursday celebration, with the full evening entertainment running from the first dance at 9:30pm through to the final song at 1:30am. They had sent me a playlist and some music preferences in advance, which gave me a strong starting point for the night. As with every wedding, though, the real test comes once the music starts and you see how the room responds. It became clear fairly early on that some of the planned tracks weren’t landing quite as strongly as expected, while the older 70s and 80s favourites were getting a much better reaction from the guests. From there, I adjusted the music and leaned more into what was working on the dance floor, while still keeping Toni and Brian’s own preferences in mind. It was a good example of why I never rely on a fixed playlist alone. Every crowd is different, and sometimes the best result comes from being flexible, reading the room and changing direction when needed. By the end of the night, the music had found the right balance for the guests in the room and the atmosphere had really come together.
